USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group

The USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, or Carrier Strike Group 7, part of the Navy’s response to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, is on the scene in Japan to provide humanitarian relief and provide assistance in the cleanup effort.

The USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group is made up of the following ships:

  • USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) – aircraft carrier
  • USS Chancellorsville (CG-62) – cruiser
  • USS Preble (DDG-88) – destroyer
  • USNS Bridge (T-AOE-10) – combat support ship

The USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group is busy operating missions to rescue people stranded by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as:

  • SH-60 helicopter missions to survey damage.
  • Evacuations from Takata City.
  • Refueling Japan Self Defense Force helicopters.
  • Assisting and supporting Japan’s Coast Guard, Police, Fire, and other Civil Defense forces in rescue and relief missions.
